Best Places to Eat in Gunsan

FOOD
My favorite part of life!

When you move to a new country, one of the first things people ask is about the food.
We travel all over the Peninsula, so some of these may be slightly outside the city. But for the most part, below are the best places to eat in Gunsan, Republic of Korea!

Sweet India

This wonderful restaurant has delicious curry- lamb, beef, and veggie- and naan of varying flavors. You can get plain naan, or naan brushed with honey or garlic sauce. This photo is three types of curry, but you can get a single large bowl of your favorite flavor.

Beer Garden (near Eunpa Lake)

The Earth Beer Garden (I think) is on the edge of Eunpa Lake. The menu is hard to translate, but the Shrimp Pilaf is to die for. The pizza is a tad spicy, but still yummy!

Cafe Liz
Cafe Liz is one of my favorite places. Not a ton of variety in foodstuff, but their coffee is the best I've had while here. The outside looks like worn-down industrial brickwork, but the inside smells of sawdust and sweets.

Here Burger
Near the center of downtown, Here Burger is the closest we've come to finding a hearty. American-style burger. Korean burgers tend to be smaller, high & narrow, and faintly sweet. But this burger was thick and hearty!

Rest Stops
Interestingly enough, Korean rest stops have some of the best foods!
Rottibun is a coffee stand and has normal and vanilla-flavored pastries. Its large, warm, and delicious for only 1,300 Won (about a dollar).

The larger rest stops have a cafeteria set up, with some of the best rice and ramen I've had!

Outside, food stands of varying brand and quality can cook something up for you. Fish sticks, fish patties, sausage dogs, coffee, rice patties, etc...you never really know what you're going to get.

Kunsan AB Bowling Alley
Funny enough, I realllyyy love the Bimpimbap from the bowling alley...fresh veggies, marinated beef, and rice. Hits the spot!

Cafe Tiamo
Also known as Crack Waffle, this is a cute coffee shop downtown that serves coffee, ice cream, and waffles with fruit affectoinally called Crack Waffles. We havn't tried that particular dish yet, but we will soon!

Yeosan Apple Festival

Yeosan Apple Festival

The dinosaur got your attention, didn't it?
It caught ours, too. For some reason, dinosaurs were scattered around the Apple Festival...some snacking, some not, but all the center of attention for kids and adults alike.

Other than the dinos, the Apple Festival was on the edge of a lake and waterfall, in view of a small town.

The tents held vendors selling random goods and services, and the best row was the like of apple vendors giving out free samples! We went through that section twice, and bought a box of Costco-sized apples for only 10,000 Won! Thats roughly $9, and that would have cost double at a normal store.

Throughout the day, several groups performed dances and skits...unfortunately we didn't understand a word, but they seemed to have fun!

We wandered around the town to find lunch, and failed to find any place we could communicate before landing upon a delicious pizza and chicken place.

We also had a taste of the local community...

We returned to the festival for a selfie with a dino, and to buy our apples...

We had to take a 3.5 hour bus ride each way, but between napping and Netflix, it was a great way to spend a Sunday! Plus now we have fresh fruit for a fraction of the cost back in our town!
